With the arrival of March, spring can’t be too far away; at least according to the calendar. The seed packets and potting soil, along with grass seed and fertilizer are on the shelves at our favorite stores. The tack catalogs all have a spring theme in their advertising photos and the biggest harbinger of spring, the annual Ohio Equine Affaire, is just a month away. This month’s issue of the Corral once again provides our subscribers with an Equine Affaire Preview insert. If you plan on attending this mega horse expo, take some time to check out the insert’s four-day calendar and the biographies of this year’s clinicians. As always, thank you to Equine Affaire, our advertisers and our own Corral staff who made the insert possible.
The Michigan Horse Council (MHC) once again will present their Stallion Expo this year on March 7, 8 and 9. The Corral will be there with our trade show booth while Joe serves as the primary event announcer. This is always a busy weekend, but MHC takes super care of us along with its other vendors and clinicians. Also this year, the Corral will be attending the Hoosier Horse Fair for the first time on April 4, 5 and 6. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Danielle Carey Tolan and the rest of the staff from AgriVent Productions as we made arrangements to attend this well-established show. Joe will be announcing the Ultimate Mustang Challenge on Friday and Saturday. If you would like to attend these shows, check out their advertisements in this issue for more information. And remember, visit us at the Corral booth and say “Hi”.
How about that front cover! With winter being so rough on most of us I wanted to give everyone a reason to smile with this adorable picture of two playful miniature foals. I look at many photos from our regional photographers each month and usually it is very hard to pick one for the cover; not this month! Since I have my own hairy minikins in the barn, I fell in love with this photo. By the way, if you are a photographer and have an extraordinary equine photo you would like to submit for consideration for one of our covers, please send to me with a copy to Michelle. You can find our email addresses in the Corral staff block on page 5.
On a personal note, I’d like to thank everyone who sent us such kind and supportive words regarding the loss of our Joey and Sugar Bear. It was very comforting to have so many friends extend their thoughts and prayers to us during a very difficult February. And to Kathy and Megan; your kindness of including my mom and dad in your heart felt sympathies was very touching and will always be remembered.
Until next month; don’t despair, the crocuses and spring peepers will make their yearly debut sometime in the latter half of March, and that means we might get a few early spring trail rides in!
