One of the nice things about owning an equine magazine is that when the cover photo you planned on falls through you can make a quick decision and use a picture of your own horse…as long as you know someone close by with a great camera, an artistic eye, and who can take a super photo on short notice, (in profile and high resolution of course). Our own Michelle Ross, Director Arts and Composition, filled our photographer slot for the July cover photo. The newest addition to the Coalter ranch, and this month’s subject on the cover, Half-Arabian, Princess Ravenstar, can be seen racing through our pasture at just three weeks old. Raven is already a friendly and curious foal with just the right amount of spunk to make her fun to watch yet manageable when handling her. We are hoping when she sheds out her foal coat she will be black like her Egyptian Arabian sire. So far the hair around her muzzle and eyes indicate we might just get what we have hoped for. If we can add to this a super long, thick mane and tail inherited from both parents; along with refined performance horse conformation, then we have what we planned for when we chose the stud for our beautiful mare Morning Star. I learned the lesson a long time ago that ‘Pretty Is as Pretty Does’. However, I still like it when ‘Pretty Does’ has a lot of ‘Pretty Is’ to look at.
The crew here at the Corral has been very busy this past month both in and out of the office. Of course it’s summer and that means vacations. Our office hours have been limited lately and most likely will continue that way off and on through July and August. Just this past weekend we spent Friday through Sunday with the good folks at the Ohio Quarter Horse Association attending their annual All Breed Trail Ride and Challenge at the Tri-County Trail Association’s horsemen’s camp and trails. The event was family oriented with equine enthusiasts of all ages who participated in the trail ride and even the trail challenge. Please take a few moments to read my article about all the fun we had throughout the weekend and look for us on the road at a rodeo, horse show or trail ride near you.
Until next month,
